I'm so happy I was able to find this ring and offer it to you. Finding an acrostic ring in navette form is unusual, and I have never seen one I have been able to buy before.
Acrostic jewellery was made popular by those ever-sentimental Georgians, using the first letter of each gemstone to spell out a message, often words such as "DEAREST" or "REGARD" or sometimes even a loved ones name. This trend continued into the Victorian era and beyond.
This particular example is a little later, dating to around 1910, and has a central row of Amethyst, Diamond, Opal, Ruby and Emerald, to spell out the endearment ADORE. This is surrounded by bright rose cut diamonds, with a further rose cut diamond atop each shoulder.
I love this not only for the secret message, but also the tutti-fruitti vibe of the mixed gemstones.
